Clapton calls Crossroads Festival a “dream”

Eric Clapton tickets to the Crossroads Guitar Festival are heating up following the announcement of new artists coming to the one-day festival.

The 2010 Crossroads Festival will be held at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., on June 26. So far, such artists as the Allman Brothers, BB King, Buddy Guy and Steve Winwood have been announced.

“The Crossroads Festival is the realization of a dream for me, to gather a group of amazingly talented musicians to perform on one stage,” Clapton said to the Boston Music Spotlight.

Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck together for first co-headlining tour

Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck are scheduled to play a handful of shows together in February. This will be the first time co-headlining a tour.  Their relationship began way back in the 1960s when they were both members of The Yardbirds, though they never played together in the band. Beck was actually Clapton’s replacement when Clapton left the band in ’65.

Last year, the two played together for the first time in Japan at the Tokyo Saitama Arena.

“I’ve always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around. He’s a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again,” Clapton said in a press release.

Clapton-Winwood live album garners Grammy Noms

The 2009 release from Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, Live at Madison Square Garden, has earned two Grammy nominations for the former Blind Faith band mates.

Nominations were received for Best Rock Album and for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group for “Can’t Find My Way Home.”  They are up against some of mainstream rock’s biggest stars, including Coldplay, U2, Green Day, Kings of Leon and the Dave Matthews Band.

The 2-disc DVD set captures the New York City performance, a sold-out three-night gig, by these legends of rock, who reunited for a tour.  The second disc features an exclusive documentary with new interviews from Clapton and Winwood, rare footage and photos of Cream, Traffic and Blind Faith, and backstage behind-the-scenes scenes.

The 52nd Grammy Awards airs on January 31, 2010, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, on CBS at 8pm (EST).

Clapton collaborations continue in 2010

I think that Eric Clapton has perfected a brilliant touring strategy that yields maximum bang without  the exhaustion of endless gigs - split the bill!

After a successful touring run with former Blind Faith partner, Steve Winwood, earlier this year, Clapton is building on another old familiar, namely a few dates with fellow guitar great Jeff Beck, followed shortly thereafter by an 11-city solo tour. The Clapton-Beck gigs will take place at Madison Square Garden in NYC, and in Toronto and Montreal.

The solo outing begins February 25th in Pittsburgh at Mellon Arena. Of course, “solo” is somewhat of a misnomer. Joining Clapton on this roadtrip is special guest Roger Daltrey. The Who’s frontman just finished up his own solo tour, but doesn’t seem ready to take a break just yet either. The pairing is a perfect bill for a night of classic rock with two musical geniuses.

Stops will include Kansas City, Memphis, Atlanta and New Orleans. Stay tuned for more news to come!

Eric Clapton finishing up his Supergroup Collaborations

Eric Clapton is coming off of a highly successful tour with Steve Winwood, which lasted almost all summer and hit a number of stadiums and arenas across the country.

Clapton and Winwood performed together in the 1960’s supergroup Blind Faith.  In 2008, the group performed together again at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and this new tour was bourn.

Clapton has embarked on a number of reunions in recent years, including a tour with Cream and a performance with Jeff Beck, formerly of the Yardbirds, in Japan.
